In this book, the author of Edible Plants of French Guiana describes the most common indigenous edible species founded in the French Guianan part of the Guianas.

Presented in alphabetical order, these plants are briefly described using morphological characters, plant habitat and,
when fruits are concerned, fruiting period is given.

In the general index scientific names of plants can be seen
with the vernacular names in spoken languages of French Guiana with distinctive attention between ethnics groups and linguistics families (Creole, Noir marron, Indian).

Illustrated with numerous drawing and color plates, this small field book should interest all people incoming in French Guiana or which are eager to assess this luxuriant Guiana forest




THE AUTHOR
After graduation in natural science, Dr L. Cadamuro carried out its national service within the Guianan Space Center between 1992 and 1994.
Contacted by the Forces Armed in French Guiana, he is then affected to the Institute of Research for the Development (ex ORSTOM) in Cayenne to carry out a synthesis on the Edible Plants of French Guiana.
From this first document will born the idea from a work intended for general public.
Grant-aided with a research allowance he worked first at the Laboratory of Terrestrial Ecology of Toulouse where he will prepare until 1999, in collaboration with Silvolab-Guyane, a Ph D thesis on the dynamics of the mangrove and the estuarine formations.
Employed by public organizations as well as private ones, botany, cartography, geographical information systems or remote sensing are as many disciplines which constitute from now its field of activities.


LE LIVRE
Dans ce fascicule sur les Plantes comestibles de Guyane, l'auteur présente les espèces ayant un intérêt alimentaire les plus couramment rencontrées à l'état naturel sur le Plateau des Guyanes et plus précisément en Guyane Française.

Listées alphabétiquement, ces plantes sont brièvement décrites par leur morphologie, leur habitat et, lorsque les fruits sont consommés, leur période de fructification est donnée à titre indicatif.

L'index général reprend les noms scientifiques de même que les dénominations vernaculaires dans les différentes langues parlées en Guyane, ces différentes langues étant par grandes ethnies et par familles linguistiques (Créole, Noir marron, Amérindien).

Illustré par de nombreux dessins et photos couleurs, cet ouvrage devrait intéresser toutes les personnes amenées à se déplacer au sein de la Guyane ainsi que toutes les personnes désireuses de mieux appréhender cet environnement guyanais si riche.



 L'AUTEUR

Après une maîtrise en sciences naturelles, L. Cadamuro a effectué son service national au sein du Centre Spatial Guyanais entre 1992 et 1994.


Contacté par les Forces Armées en Guyane, il est alors détaché auprès de l'Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (ex ORSTOM) de Cayenne pour réaliser une synthèse sur les plantes comestibles de Guyane.
De ce premier document naîtra l'idée d'un ouvrage destiné au grand public.


Doté d'une allocation de recherches, il intègrera le Laboratoire d'Ecologie Terrestre de Toulouse où il préparera jusqu'en 1999, en collaboration avec Silvolab-Guyane, une thèse sur la dynamique de la mangrove et des formations d'estuaires.
